Market Making for Mission

In this installment of the Mission Investors Exchange series for SSIR, Julia Stasch of the MacArthur Foundation writes about their efforts to grow the impact investing marketplace by developing more investment platforms and products. They recognize that to increase their impact they must look beyond the capacity of their own assets. They call it “market making for mission, ” and their goal is to make the marketplace more inclusive, more effective and more impactful. Despite the growth and success of impact investing, Stasch says that billions of potential investment dollars are left on the sidelines. MacArthur is exploring ways to overcome the obstacles that prevent some investors from joining in by offering new kinds of partnerships, credit, and liquidity.
