Our May 8 Luncheon Plenary at the MIE 2024 National Conference kicked off with remarks from Matt Onek, president & CEO of MIE, along with a conversation between Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Miguel Santana, president & CEO of the California Community Foundation and Conference co-chair.
“Activating for Equity in a Time of Change" was a dynamic panel of visionary leaders spanning the fields of philanthropy, asset management, entrepreneurship, and advocacy. John Palfrey, president of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, moderated a conversation with Tonya Allen, president of the McKnight Foundation; Cheryl Dorsey, president of Echoing Green; and Mellody Hobson, co-CEO and president of Ariel Investments. Setting the tone for the conference, they engaged in a discussion about what it takes to intentionally incorporate equity into investing and operations, particularly given the current headwinds and ever-changing landscape.
