First Social Impact Bond Focused on Combatting HIV in the UK

The Elton John AIDS Foundation announced that it is piloting the world’s first Social Impact Bond (SIB) designed to reduce HIV transmission in London. The bond would fund the commissioning of new, evidence-based interventions in the region, bringing new medical treatments to the city and breaking down barriers to treatment facing some communities.

Initially funded by private investors, other foundations and impact investing funds, the collaborative project will involve the creation of a Social Investment Partnership  supported by a National Lottery grant from the UK’s Big Lottery Fund.
