About the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy
The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy seeks to improve quality of life through the effective use, taxation, and stewardship of land. A nonprofit private operating foundation whose origins date to 1946, the Lincoln Institute researches and recommends creative approaches to land as a solution to economic, social, and environmental challenges. Through education, training, publications, and events, we integrate theory and practice to inform public policy decisions worldwide. With locations in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Washington, DC, Phoenix, and Beijing, we organize our work in seven major areas: Planning and Urban Form, Valuation and Taxation, International and Institute-Wide Initiatives, Latin America and the Caribbean, People’s Republic of China, The Babbitt Center for Land and Water Policy, and the Center for Community Investment.
 

About the Position

This is a new position designed to support CCI’s busy Executive Director who oversees CCI’s program, communications, leadership development, and operations teams; participates actively in CCI’s community investment and leadership development programs; manages CCI’s staff and consultants; networks and builds partnerships across the fields in which CCI operates; and maintains an active speaking schedule. The Executive Assistant will ensure that the Executive Director is fully equipped to do their work and will represent them as needed, internally and externally. We are seeking an engaged and organized non-profit professional, with excellent management, communication, and administrative skills, and interest. Experience in community development, community investment, community organizing, and/or racial equity work is desired but not essential.

What You’ll Do
Program Support
  • Support the development of CCI’s new distributed leadership structure, including working with ad hoc and permanent teams coordinating different aspects of our work
  • Coordinate communication and workflow between Executive Director and program, communications, and operations teams, as well as across teams
  • Manage special projects as needed
  • Arrange and attend internal and external meetings along with the Executive Director; take notes, track action items, and follow up
  • Prepare Executive Director for meetings, including collecting or preparing relevant materials in advance
  • Represent Executive Director at selected internal and external meetings, including taking notes, reporting back
  • Duties will evolve and are not limited to expectations outlined in this Job Description
  • Some domestic travel will be required.
Networking and Communications
  • Ensure information flows smoothly between CCI and its funders and key partners
  • Assist with preparing agendas and materials for Project Advisory Council
Administrative Support
  • Manage Executive Director’s correspondence, including follow-up on emails, drafting emails and other short communications to ensure responsiveness, and ensuring that staff are included in correspondence as needed
  • Help manage Executive Director schedule and travel to ensure efficient and productive use of time in service of organizational priorities

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum five to seven years of relevant professional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Strong written skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including cultural competence, sensitivity to diverse perspectives and experiences, strong listening skills, and equanimity in the face of ambiguous and complex situations
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Flexible and adaptive approach with the ability to routinely juggle multiple competing priorities and work in teams
  • Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Compensation

Compensation is competitive, commensurate with experience.
