Position Description

The President of LOCUS Impact Investing (LOCUS) will provide the leadership and direction to enable the organization to amplify their ability to empower place-focused foundations to invest their capital locally to build prosperous, vibrant communities.
 
Managing a team of 15 and operational budget of $5 million, this leader will grow LOCUS and lead a team to provide continued development of the strategy and pipeline to grow current programs and build new products and services.  This leader will build on previous successes and accelerate our impact on behalf of national organizations. Critically, this leader will enhance the revenue model, leveraging the current business flows and grow recurring revenue.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Execute and build on the strategy and pipeline to grow LOCUS nationally.
  • Leverage the momentum and attention to impact investing, foundation financing knowledge to bring an impact investments and blended finance mechanisms to our partners.
  • Build and strengthen the sustainable financial model for the organization and serve as the Chief Development Officer.
  • Promote, market and scale LOCUS throughout the impact investing and philanthropic community through a well-planned, effective national marketing strategy.
  • Collaborate with the LOCUS Board of Directors, VCC Senior Management at all levels to obtain stakeholder buy-in and consensus and integrate impact investing into organizational culture.
  • 40% travel as required for donor meetings, conferences and thought leadership.
  • Lead and motivate a team of devoted professionals.
 

Candidate Requirements

  • Absolute passion for the mission of LOCUS and a deep appreciation for community development work.
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 year(s) of leadership or management experience.
  • Leadership and management experience internally and externally within a complex Organization. Proven ability to navigate organizations to get things done.
  • Entrepreneurial orientation with the ability to bring structure and execution ability to a growing organization.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills to influence and promote the Impact Fund to investors, donors and larger audiences.
  • A track record of creativity, agility and innovation across a person’s career.
  • Experience and networks with leading foundations and impact investors; prior experience in banking institutions, national organizations preferred.
  • Proven experience collaborating internally and externally to grow products and services that produce catalytic change.
  • Investment experience with knowledge across the capital stack, with a priority for in-depth experience in development finance or relevant field. Investment experience could include screening and structuring investments, risk management and monitoring.
  • Intimate understanding of philanthropic markets and below-market rate/catalytic investors involved in impact investing ranging from foundations to family offices, Creativity, tenacity and agility within the world of impact investments.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute on a plan to realize its vision.
Additional qualifications include:
  • Experience having developed, grown and scaled a for profit, startup, or organization in growth.
  • External capital/fundraising experience, funding to be less grant reliant raising capital
  • Absolute passion for the mission of LOCUS and a deep appreciation for community investment work nationally.
  • Innovation and creativity, flexibility, learning agility, forward-thinking on a national scale.
  • Thought leadership and management experience internally and externally within a complex, national or global organization.
  • Proven ability to navigate large organizations to get things done.
  • Proven experience collaborating internally and externally to grow products and services that produce catalytic change.
  • Banking and financial products knowledge and investment experience across all asset classes, with a priority for in-depth experience in community development finance or relevant field.Experience in asset servicing highly preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and public speaking skills to influence and promote the organization to investors, donors and larger audiences.
  • Experience scaling a hybrid nonprofit/financial investment organization, including strategy and pricing.
  • Intimate understanding of philanthropic markets and below-market rate/catalytic investors involved in impact investing ranging from foundations to family offices.
  • Creativity, tenacity and agility within the world of impact investments

Education
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required, ideally with major course work in finance, economics, public policy or environmental studies.
  • An advanced degree in business, law, public policy, finance or equivalent professional qualifications demonstrating impact investment knowledge is highly preferred.
 

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
